Troy's Ladder - PRINT

My experience as an artist is one that requires consistent reinvention. While being given the ability and time to create means for some, immediately finding your lane and filling it out; for me personally, it’s felt like a much slower uphill battle.

Inspired by Titian’s ‘Sisyphus’, Troy's Ladder is my attempt to depict the sense of overwhelm that I feel while trying to figure out my life at 28, my art, and what my own blueprint should ultimately look like. Whether literally or figuratively, the process of growth happens incrementally. With every return to the canvas, you're given a chance to reinvent yourself; to reshape how you show up in the world. To change history. It's no small feat, but as lofty as it sounds - not impossible. 

In art, that means building daily habits that you’ve never learned and writing goals that at a glance, feel impossible or unattainable - only to have those around you misunderstand you at every opportunity they get. And they will. It doesn't get easier, but you will be able to stand on the seeds that you planted previously, as long as you continue down the path. I’ve never figured it out, but I will. This is a step forward even if I slide back down the mountain. I will cross the threshold into breakthrough one day. And until then, I’ll keep going.
